Cozy houses nestled in twilight gardens. Lamplight from the windows welcomes us home. Play with color, light/luminosity and the imagery and style of patterned fabrics. Express "Dusk" without gloom. Update tradition. This workshop explores the patterns and styles preferred by Amish quilt makers, especially those traditionally associated with the Pennsylvania Amish. The workshop project is a small wall hanging selecting colors from the Amish palette. Students will construct an Amish Bars or Diamond in Square quilt top. They will learn techniques to custom design quilting motifs popular with Amish quilt makers such as cables, feathers and pumpkin seed. Throughout the workshop we will discuss the lifestyle of the Amish. We will dispel some classic myths. Develop an abstract expression or sky background for landscapes based in the northern lights. Use easy strip piecing or Bargello techniques.
