Bold Abstractions: A Life in Patterns

Rosalind Daniels
Miller North

A first entry in the Vermont Quilt Festival thirty years ago began a quilting journey for Rosalind Daniels that reflects her life and the unique perspective gained from various worldwide experiences and influences. Bold Abstractions: A Life in Patterns is a collection of vibrant works showcasing the unusual fabric of a life.

A mother who taught Home Economics, a brief career in Mathematics, a 12-year journey living in the Pacific, Africa, Scandinavia, and the Indian subcontinent, and 25 years living in Vermont have all combined to create the unique perspective Rosalind Daniels brings to her fiber work. Exposure to exotic fabrics and inspiration from around the world expanded her appreciation for bold, patterned fabric beyond the range of western esthetics. When bringing these fabrics together in a quilted piece she aims to create a conversation between the various prints, which reflects the worldwide influences that have formed her distinctive vision. Her return in recent years to the practice of photography has again expanded her options for gathering shape and color to inspire new conversations about the world around her.

Slice of Cheddar

The Christ Collection
Arlan and Pat Christ, Curators

Miller North

The “Slice of Cheddar” exhibit affords the opportunity to showcase some of the bold and colorful quilts from the late nineteenth century. The color “cheddar” will delight everyone that observes the variations quilters used in their quilt designs.

Arlan and Pat Christ live in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Arlan is a tax accountant with
his office located in Kutztown, PA. When Pat is not working for Arlan, she can be found in her
sewing studio or tending their country gardens. The Christs continue to collect and study quilts
while documenting their historical importance. Retrieving knowledge to secure the heritage of
antique quilts has become the prime objective of The Christ Collection.
