Please be prepared for class. Bring all listed supplies for each of your classes. If supplies are not listed, none are needed. Remember to ask the instructor's permission before photographing or taping a class or class project. We also ask that you turn the sound off on your cell phones or pagers before the class.

401 - Scrap Quilts by the Slice Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Instructor: Bethany Reynolds

 

Materials fee: $1 (handouts)

Learn to piece a fan block with a curved outer edge or pointed tips, and get lots of ideas and inspirations!  Low- stress fun.  Based on the book, Magic Quilts by the Slice, (Reynolds, AQS 2003).   Tips and techniques; patterns and projects; machine sewing.   Supply List:  2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 20. 

402 - Blanket Stitch Appliqué

Level:  Beginning

Instructor: Sharon Stroud

 

Materials fee: $2.00

Learn to do blanket stitch appliqué by hand as you complete a small wall hanging.  We’ll fuse the design and practice the stitch while negotiating inner and outer points and curves.   Back to basics; tips and techniques; patterns and projects; hand sewing.   Supply List:  1, 4(1”x6” or similar), 9, 10, 11, 12, embroidery floss to match or contrast with appliqué fabrics, 20.  Fabric:  14½” square of background, ⅛ yd. of 2 or 3 fabrics for hearts and teapots.

403 - Stack-n-Whack® Butterflies Mini-Quilt

Level:  Intermediate

Instructor: Bethany Reynolds

 

Materials fee: $30 (fabric kit/handouts)

Discover the magic of Stack-n-Whack® while piecing a delightful little 21” square quilt.  This class uses a pre-cut kit to make a smaller version of the Butterflies quilt in the book: Stack-n-Whackier Quilts (Reynolds, AQS 2001, pg. 52).   Tips and techniques; patterns and projects; machine sewing.  Supply List: 2, 3, 8, 10, 11, 12, 20. 

404- Binding 101

Level:  Beginning

Instructor: Sharon Stroud

 

In this class you will learn to apply straight-cut binding, miter corners, hand finish the back and add a hanging sleeve.  Back to basics; tips and techniques; machine and hand sewing. Supply List:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15” square quilt sandwich, ¼ yd. binding fabric, ¼ yd. sleeve fabric (optional), 4”x4” square ruler (helpful).

405 - Fusible Thread Stained Glass 

Level:   Intermediate

Instructor: Charlotte Warr Andersen

 

Materials fee:  $25.00

This distinctive reverse appliqué technique uses fusible thread to create “The Herald,” the project for this class.  The 16”x 20” wall hanging features a glorious angel and utilizes some sheer and satin fabrics, easy to use with this process.  Patterns and projects; design and stretching; machine sewing.  Supply List:  2, 3, 8, 14, extension cord, scissors (small, fine ones that cut all the way to the point), fabric markers, black invisible thread, black machine embroidery thread and  a light box if possible.

406 - Let Me Surprise You! 

Level:  Intermediate

Instructor: Charlotte Angotti

 

Materials fee: $95.00 (pre-cut fabric kit)

A complete, pre-cut, ready to sew fabric kit that is designed just for the Vermont Quilt Festival will be provided for $95. Spend the day sewing and having a great time.  No worry about bringing the right fabric—it will be there!  It is a surprise, you don’t get to pick pattern, color or style and no hints will be given.  Get in here and let’s make a quilt! This is a totally different quilt and fabric from the Let Me Surprise You class on Friday and $85 kit!!   Patterns and projects; machine sewing. Supply List:  2, 5 (for sub-cutting, not always needed), 8, 12.  You will get complete instructions and a color picture with class, but some students might want to bring a camera to get more pictures of the quilt. 

407 - The Liberating Log Cabin 

Level:  All

Instructor: Wendy Butler Berns

 

Come explore the endless contemporary possibilities of the log cabin block with Wendy’s spontaneous, freeing, no-rules approach.  Following demonstrations and a show and tell of examples, you will play with some of your favorites.  Choose to construct multiple sample blocks, and/or focus on one or two favorites to begin a quilt top.  Tips and techniques; design and stretching; machine sewing.  Supply List:  2, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 20.

408 - Ocean Sunrise

Level:  Intermediate

Instructor: Karen Kay Buckley

 

Materials fee:  $15.00.

This wonderful wall quilt is paper-pieced and machine appliquéd.  You will be thrilled at how sharp those long skinny points will be and how quick and easy it is to machine appliqué these curves.  You will have several blocks completed in class with detailed instructions on how to finish your quilt top at home.  Patterns and projects; machine sewing.  Supply List:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 20, extra empty bobbin, press cloth, fabrics:  3 yds. yellow for blocks and piping on borders, 1 ½ yds. blue print for points in blocks, ⅝ yd. for ¼ circle shapes, 3 yds. dark blue for border, binding and outer curved piece on blocks.

409 – Mystery! “Friendzied” Quilters Fat Quarter Fantasy 

Level:  Beginning

Instructor: Nancy Chandler and Maryjane Simpson

 

This quilt uses those fat quarters you’ve collected in a dramatic setting.  Jumpstart done at home.  Come to class prepared to have fun and produce.  M&M’s supplied.  52”x65” plus borders.  Tips and techniques; machine sewing.  Supply List:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, paper bag, 12 ½” square, 20:  jumpstart directions and materials list sent with confirmation.
